About

I’m Sherry Boschert, blogging as I work on my new book, Uppity Women. I’ve been an award-winning journalist and author for more than 30 years. I like to illuminate the history behind hot current topics for a better understanding of where we’re headed.

Currently: I’m working on a book about the dynamic history of Title IX, the most important law for U.S. women since the right to vote. The story is told through the common denominator binding Title IX’s nearly five decades of impact — the uppity women behind it all. From those who fought for Title IX in the 1970s to today’s student activists, women have sought Title IX’s protection, used it to change  society, and sparked controversies sure to affect the next generation.

About me: This is my second book. The first was Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars That Will Recharge America (New Society Publishers, 2006). Read more on that below.

Professionally, I worked as the San Francisco Bureau Chief for Frontline Medical News from 1990 to 2015 and for mainstream newspapers and magazines before that. My freelance articles have been published by The New York Times and other news outlets. I’ve published more than 2,000 articles and produced many dozens of videos, podcasts, and blog posts. I’ve won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and others. See more details about me in my resume and on the Media & Speaking page.

Find me on social media through the “Let’s connect” links in the sidebar on the right, and see some of the independent video interviews that I’ve produce on my YouTube channel.

Books: My first book, Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars That Will Recharge America (New Society Publishers, 2006) sold more than 10,500 copies in two printings. One buyer sent a copy to every member of the U.S. Congress! The year it appeared, you couldn’t buy an electric car in the United States. Today, more than 492,000 plug-in cars have been sold in the United States and many more worldwide. For more on that topic, head on over to the non-profit organization that I co-founded, Plug In America. You can see lists of my appearances in the media and at speaking engagements on the Media & Speaking page.

Testimonials for Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars That Will Recharge America

This is an important book. As a historian I was intrigued by the history; as a reader I was charmed by the writing; as a citizen I was outraged by the auto industry’s duplicity. If you think your car should get a few more MPG (like 30 more!), plug into Plug-in Hybrids. It will recharge your political batteries. — Martin  Sherwin, the Pulitzer Prize-winning co-author of American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer and a professor of history at Tufts University

An informative, provocative, engaging book about a vital topic, Plug-in Hybrids is an important book for the 21st century. — Ocean Robbins, founder and director, Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES)

Sherry Boschert does a great job of showing how shifting to hybrid plug-in cars can sharply reduce gasoline use, dependence on imported oil, and carbon emissions. — Lester R. Brown, president, Earth Policy Institute, and author of Plan B  2.0: Rescuing a Planet Under Stress and a Civilization in Trouble

Plug-in Hybrids is a must-read. If you are concerned about the environment, national security, or high gas prices, there is a solution and it’s contained in this book. — Alexandra Paul, actress and EV driver

The 37 words: Oh, and here are Title IX’s 37 words, after which this blog is named: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” – Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
