Answers:

Q: I like this idea. Where can I buy a plug-in hybrid?

A: You can help get plug-in hybrids into auto dealer showrooms sooner rather than later. GM unveiled the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid concept car at the Detroit auto show on January 7, 2007, but has said won't sell the Volt until 2010. See GM's 18-minute video for a peek: Chevrolet Volt Electric Concept

There is no technological reason plug-in hybrids couldn't be on the road today. Call the phone numbers for major automakers listed at www.pluginamerica.com and tell them you won't buy another car until you can get one with a plug on it. If you want a car that can get over 100 mpg, demand it!

Q: Is a car that runs on electricity really green? What about pollution from the power plants?

A: Electric cars that run on renewable wind or solar power eliminate emissions. But even today, with 50% of U.S. power coming from dirty coal plants, plug-in hybrids still reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and most other pollutants compared with either conventional gasoline cars or hybrids, because so much of it comes out of tailpipes. See our summary of more than 40 studies, analyses, and presentations on this topic.

Q: Got any good resources besides your book on plug-in vehicles?

A: Yes! Don't miss the powerful documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? available on DVD by Sony Pictures Classics. Order from Plug In America www.pluginamerica.com and you'll be supporting plug-in cars at the same time!
